Tate Group

Comprehensive Recycling for Philip Morris International

Challenge:

Tate Group, managing logistics and storage for Philip Morris International, faced a significant challenge with large quantities of stored products that needed to be securely disposed of or recycled. These items ranged from vape products and marketing materials to clothing, shoes, and promotional items used in trade shows. Given the brand’s prominence, it was essential that the process ensured secure destruction of branded materials while adhering to sustainability goals.

Solution:

GreenSphere worked closely with Tate Group to create a comprehensive plan to securely sort, destroy, and recycle the wide variety of products. This project required a tailored approach to handle the different types of materials, while ensuring that sensitive or branded items were securely destroyed to protect Philip Morris’s reputation.

  • Vape Products:
We carefully dismantled the vape products, separating lithium batteries, plastics, and metals. The batteries were handled by specialized recycling facilities, while the plastics and metals were granulated and repurposed for use in new products.
  • Marketing Materials:
These items included plastic, paper, and branded promotional material used in trade shows. All branded items were securely destroyed to prevent unauthorised resale or misuse. The plastics and paper were recycled, with full documentation provided to ensure transparency.
  • Clothing and Shoes:
The promotional apparel was sorted based on its condition. Reusable items were repurposed where possible, while damaged or unsellable items were securely destroyed. The textiles were shredded and repurposed for industrial uses such as insulation or new fabric materials.
  • Other Trade Show Items:
Items like banners, displays, and branded merchandise were also sorted and securely destroyed. These materials were processed to ensure that any sensitive or branded components were recycled responsibly or repurposed.

Outcome:

Tate Group successfully managed the disposal and recycling of over 50 tonnes of mixed materials for Philip Morris, ensuring that all products were either securely destroyed or recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. GreenSphere provided full documentation, including certificates of destruction, for brand protection. By recovering valuable materials such as plastics, metals, and textiles, the project supported both Tate Group’s and Philip Morris’s sustainability goals.
