Well Known Hair Care Brand

Recycling Hair Products in Mixed Packaging
Challenge:
A leading haircare brand known for its commitment to sustainability and cruelty-free products, needed a recycling solution for unsellable and excess stock of hair products. The challenge was managing the wide variety of packaging types—plastic bottles, metal tubes, glass containers, and paper boxes—while ensuring brand protection and minimizing environmental impact. The brand sought a partner who could securely handle these mixed materials and recycle them responsibly.
Solution:
GreenSphere collaborated with the distributor of this leading hair care brand to create a tailored recycling plan that addressed the specific requirements of their hair products’ diverse packaging. Our goal was to ensure the secure destruction of branded items while maximizing the recovery and recycling of materials to support Bleach London’s sustainability objectives.
- Plastic Bottles:
The majority of hair products were packaged in plastic bottles. We granulated the plastic (polypropylene and PET) into pellets, which were repurposed for use in manufacturing new plastic products such as containers and packaging materials. - Metal Tubes:
Metal packaging, commonly used for hair colorants and treatments, was sorted and sent to specialized metal recycling facilities. The metals were refined and repurposed for use in the production of new metal products, helping reduce the need for virgin metal resources. - Glass Containers:
For products packaged in glass bottles and jars, we separated the glass from other materials, cleaned it, and sent it for recycling. The glass was melted down and repurposed for new glass products, such as bottles and jars. - Paper Boxes and Inserts:
Paper packaging and product inserts were collected, baled, and sent to a recycling facility. The paper was pulped and used to create new paper products such as packaging, boxes, and recycled paper stock. - Secure Destruction (for Brand Protection):
Any branded packaging or products that could not be repurposed were securely destroyed to prevent unauthorised resale or misuse. The brand received certificates of destruction, ensuring complete transparency and protection of their brand. - Handling Liquid-Filled Products:
- For products containing liquid, we use specialized machinery to crush the entire item. The resulting materials are collected and processed in compliance with environmental regulations through partnerships with top recyclers. Non-toxic liquid contents are safely managed, ensuring responsible disposal. This approach reinforces our commitment to sustainability and brand protection by securely managing both the product and its contents.
Outcome:
The brand successfully recycled over 25 tonnes of hair product packaging, contributing to their sustainability goals. GreenSphere provided a comprehensive recycling solution that ensured the secure destruction of unsellable products while maximizing material recovery. By partnering with us, Bleach London was able to recycle a variety of packaging materials, reducing their environmental impact and supporting a circular economy.
